Edmonton Fire Fighter Rooftop Campout

Over time, persons with neuromuscular disorders may lose the ability to walk, speak, and ultimately breathe.  So, while they continue to battle daily for their health, Edmonton Fire Fighters will battle Alberta’s unpredictable winter environment to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada through their 7th annual Rooftop Campout from February 21-24, 2012.  The event is a joint initiative between Edmonton Fire Fighters Union Local 209 and Edmonton Fire Rescue Services.Fire Fighters will spend the entire three days on the roof of Fire Station #2, located at 10217 -107th Street.

“When you meet and chat with children and families affected by muscular dystrophy, you can’t help but be moved.  They are heroes.  They inspire me, and all of the Fire Fighters taking part in these rooftop campouts,” says Edmonton Fire Fighter, Paul McGonigal.  “Last year this event raised over $67,000 and this year we have set our goal at $65,000.  I am proud of the dedication that our Fire Fighters show to this worthy cause.”

Fire Fighter Troy Farn, one of the campers, echoes Paul’s comments saying, “Providing support to Muscular Dystrophy Canada is something that our Fire Fighters take a lot of pride in.  The Rooftop Campout is just one of many events our members are actively involved in to help raise funds and find a cure for neuromuscular diseases.”
