Member Profiles

We are very proud of our Chapter members in the Western Canada region.  The following are profiles of some of our Chapter members which will provide you with a sense of how much passion and dedication these volunteers have.

Kelly Hyde, President, Calgary Chapter

Last October my nephew Connor was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This news changed my life and the life of my family. Only five weeks after my nephew's diagnosis, my family raised over $10,000 in pledges and participated in the Muscular Dystrophy Elf Run. This inspired me and since then, I have been passionate about raising awareness and funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada and doing what I can to make a difference - not only for Connor but for those living in Calgary who are impacted directly and indirectly by this disorder.

In my work life, I'm a communications consultant so this provides me with the flexibility to volunteer as President of the Calgary Chapter. I'm fortunate to work with a wonderful executive and chapter including Cliff Holloway, our Past President who has and continues to devote countless hours to our chapter. In the short time that I've been involved, my priority has been increasing awareness about the disease itself as well as our local events. I believe strongly that we need to increase awareness in Calgary and then we can move forward with more fundraising efforts.

In the coming months, I would like to also work toward fostering a greater level of support among local members to ensure that people are supported as they deal with the day-to-day struggles associated with Muscular Dystrophy. I'm excited about what's possible and I look forward to continuing to collaborate with both our local chapter members as well as the dedicated employees at Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

Roger Breault, Vice President, Edmonton Chapter

Roger is a person with a neuromuscular disorder.  He has been an active chapter member for more than 10 years, having held several executive positions.

Roger’s greatest contributions come from his passion for public speaking, and he uses those skills best when advocating with provincial government for the establishment of an adult neuromuscular clinic, acting as host for local chapter events, or speaking to corporations about Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
