Christina and Michael Darrah are the winners of the Mary Ann Wickham Volunteer of the Year award in Atlantic Canada for 2012-2013. They are longstanding volunteers with the Central New Brunswick Chapter in Fredericton. Mike has a neuromuscular disorder, but that hasn’t stopped him from making a significant difference for others. In 2012, with Chris as the official Chapter President, this dynamic duo showed incredible leadership to the Central New Brunswick Chapter in all activities, but particularly as the impresarios of the amazing 11 Minutes/11 Muscles unique fundraising event. Inspired by the TED talks featured on ted.com, 11 Minutes/11 Muscles was an evening of short riveting talks followed by a silent auction and reception. The evening featured speakers such as Dr. Peter Jensen, Olympic Sports Psychologist, Elizabeth Weir, the First Female Political Party Leader in NB, and Dr. Colleen O’Connell, Staff Physiatrist and Research Chief at the Stan Cassidy Centre. Chris and Michael have also been very involved in the Walk for Muscular Dystrophy as well as other fundraising activities and continue to be actively involved in the Central New Brunswick Chapter.
