Why donate to Muscular Dystrophy Canada?

We rely almost exclusively on the generosity of our donors – your dollars can make a profound difference at every stage of life for Canadians affected with a neuromuscular disorder. For over 60 years, your donations have been funding cutting-edge research, searching for new therapies and providing funding for essential equipment to help Canadians living with neuromuscular disorders live full and more enriched lives. We collaborate with other organizations to bring about positive social change. Ultimately, everything we do is for the benefit of people who need us.

Our vision is to find a cure for neuromuscular disorders in our lifetime. Our mission is to enhance the lives of those affected by neuromuscular disorders by continually working to provide ongoing support and resources while relentlessly searching for a cure though well-funded research.

What are the different types of donations I can make?

There are several ways to give and types of donations you can make:

General Donation

Make a general gift to Muscular Dystrophy Canada. Donations of $20 or greater will automatically receive an electronic tax receipt.

Tribute – In Honour

Make a donation to honour someone who is celebrating a special occasion (such as a wedding anniversary, birthday, or bar\bat mitzvah). You will receive a tax receipt for your gift, and we will send a card with your special message to the person(s) being honoured.

Tribute – In Memory

Make a donation in memory of someone who has passed away.

Monthly Gifts

As a monthly supporter, your contribution to support people with neuromuscular disorders is convenient, automatic and effective.

  • Stable funding for year-round campaigning allows Muscular Dystrophy Canada to help more people

Planned Giving

You can leave a gift in your will or as part of your life insurance policy or financial plan to help us invest in research and support for individuals living with neuromuscular disorders. How will my funds be used?

Your donations go towards important research, and to providing essential services, such as support, education and information to people affected with neuromuscular disorders and their families.

Our longstanding equipment program has helped thousands of people affected with neuromuscular disorders obtain essential assistive equipment, home modification and respiratory devices.

Our funding of cutting-edge research has, along with our partners, provided more than $84 million to Canadian and international researchers over the span of our history.




What percentage of funds raised (donations) are spent on fundraising activities?

The cost of fundraising varies between non-profit organizations. Muscular Dystrophy Canada relies on donations, fundraising activities, special events and sponsorship to fund its mission activities. Muscular Dystrophy Canada was able to significantly lower our fundraising and administration costs to 28%. This means more donor dollars are invested in what matters most – research, advocacy, programs and services.

Your donations are a lifeline to a community of over 50,000 Canadians affected with neuromuscular disorders. Your dollars change lives, bring a voice to those affected and make a profound difference to the families and loved ones of people affected by neuromuscular disorders.
