The Rooftop Campout is a fundraising event that started in 2005 when a handful of Edmonton Fire Fighters decided to support Muscular Dystrophy Canada by camping on the rooftop of a building, braving the elements to raise awareness and funds to help families across the country affected by neuromuscular disorders. During the campout, Fire Fighters collect donations from the community, sponsorship from local business, host local celebrities and dignitaries and involve local media and social media to get the word out about neuromuscular disorders.

Support the Edmonton Fire Fighter Rooftop Campout to Raise Funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada!

Over time, persons with neuromuscular disorders may lose the ability to walk, speak, and ultimately breathe. So, while they continue to battle daily for their health, Edmonton Fire Fighters will battle Alberta’s unpredictable winter environment to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy Canada through their 11th annual Rooftop Campout from February 21 – 24, 2017. The event is a joint initiative between Edmonton Fire Fighters Union Local 209 and Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. Fire Fighters will spend the entire time on the roof of Fire Station #2, located at 10217 107th Street.

“When families affected by neuromuscular disorders come up to the roof to say thanks and show their support for what we are doing, and we get an opportunity to chat with them, we can’t help but want to do more. They are an inspiration to me, and all of the Fire Fighters taking part in these rooftop campouts,” says Edmonton Fire Fighter Courtney Polson. “Last year we raised over $110,000 with this event and this year we have set our goal at $135,000. I can’t say enough about the dedication our Fire Fighters show to this worthy cause.”

Chris Fedor, one of the campers, echoes Courtney’s comments saying, “Edmonton Fire Fighters are proud to assist Muscular Dystrophy Canada with their mission to enhance the lives of those affected with neuromuscular disorders and will be there when they achieve their vision of finding a cure for neuromuscular disorders in our lifetime.”
