Fire Fighter Testimonials
Fire Fighters are involved with Muscular Dystrophy Canada because that’s what we do.
I’ve been affiliated with Muscular Dystrophy since 1977. Shortly after being hired by the St. Thomas Fire Department, the Chair of the day got me involved with the fundraising efforts. I continued to work for MDC for several years, then stepped up to the plate and took on the role of Chair. I organized boot tolls, canister campaigns, Buck for Luck, Karaoke contests and other fundraising events. In 2001, I was honored having been selected to represent Canadian Fire Fighters at the Annual Muscular Dystrophy Jerry Lewis Telethon in Los Angeles. My wife Shayne and I thoroughly enjoyed this once in a lifetime experience. We were awed to be in the presence of so many people dedicated to the cause of Muscular Dystrophy.
My wish is to be able to make a positive difference in the lives of people with neuromuscular disorders.

Having 32 years experience as a Fire Fighter for North Glengarry Fire Department – Maxville Station, I signed up to become a Fire Fighter Advisor for MDC almost 7 years ago. I felt this new challenge would be not only exciting but also fulfilling.
My area first consisted of 3 counties, Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. Knowing that the Prescott Russell area was lacking an advisor, I agreed to take on that area as well. After attending many meetings and talking with many Fire Fighters, Stormont and Dundas will have all of their departments supporting MDC this year. I would like nothing more than to get 100% participation from the other areas and am working hard on achieving this goal.

Since 1990, I have been involved with Muscular Dystrophy Canada (MDC). Because of that first boot drive plus having the opportunity to meet many Canadians affected by neuromuscular disorders, I am committed to fighting until this MD fire gets put out. Being the Ontario Fire Fighter Representative for the MDC Fire Fighters Relations Committee, I can tell you first hand how your support is impacting the lives of children and adults. I am proud to be a Fire Fighter, proud to be a member of the OPFFA and proud to be part of the MDC family.
I am committed for the long haul to making sure all Canadians with neuromuscular disorders continue to know that Fire Fighters are fighting for a cure.

I initially began volunteering with Muscular Dystrophy Canada because it is the Fire Fighter's charity of choice. I continue to volunteer because volunteering is such a powerful force for change. Meeting families that live daily with the disease, I am reminded how fortunate I am having been blessed with healthy family. I believe that it is my obligation to give back to society - the awareness that we create and the funds raised assist to improve the lives of these families.
