Jerry Lewis Telethon
The Annual Jerry Lewis Telethon is broadcast nationally over Labour Day weekend, with volunteers taking calls from thousands of Canadians who tune in every year and pledge their financial support. It’s an opportunity to learn more about neuromuscular disorders and some of the people affected by them, while also enjoying a variety of entertainment.
Proceeds from the telethon will go towards Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s research and support programs. Call 1-866-MUSCLE-8 to make a donation.
Please refer to your weekly cable listing to determine which station will be providing telethon coverage in your area; some communities may receive only a portion of the full program.
46th Annual Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy Canada
Muscular Dystrophy Canada is hosting the 46th Annual Labour Day Telethon to support those living with a neuromuscular disorder. Muscular Dystrophy Canada volunteers will be available to receive pledges and gifts through our Toronto Regional office call centre Labour Day Monday, September 5, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm EST. To make a pledge, please call 1-800-567-CURE (2873)
Unfortunately, Muscular Dystrophy Association, in the U.S. will only broadcast the Telethon on Sunday September 4th from 6:00 pm to 12:00 midnight. Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s 1-800 numbers will no longer be shown during the broadcast.
Funds raised will stay within Canada and support Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s mission of enhancing the lives of those affected with neuromuscular disorders through equipment and support programs, information and education, and research.
Since the Telethon first aired, donors, through their generosity have made a huge impact on the quality of life of those affected with muscular dystrophy. Donor dollars have helped improve treatments. This means that some children are walking for many more years than expected and they are living longer, more independent lives.
With life-changing progress like this and with the Telethon poised to enter a new era, we need the public’s support more than ever. It’s true that the Telethon will be changing, but children and adults affected by muscular dystrophy will continue to need our help. After all, the Telethon has an amazing legacy; since 1966, millions have been raised, offering brighter future for those Canadians, yesterday and today, affected by this disease.
