Muscular Dystrophy Canada, in partnership with CIHR Institute of Genetics, is participating in the “E-Rare” initiative — led by ERA-NET is focused on advancing rare diseases research.
Rare diseases represent an important public-health issue, yet it is currently major challenge for research. The fragmentation of resources and knowledge for the 6000-8000 rare diseases and the lack of treatment for the majority of them necessitate a coordinated approach to unravel the underlying molecular defects and pathophysiological mechanisms.
AIM: To enable scientists in different countries to build an effective collaboration on a common interdisciplinary research project based on complementarities and sharing of expertise, with a clear translational research approach.
Projects can involve a group of rare diseases or a single rare disease. Muscular Dystrophy Canada will contribute funding to projects that are deemed relevant to our mandate of supporting research into the causes and treatments for neuromuscular disorders.
